Here's an interesting article looking at more news from the neuroscience studies. Yet again there's a strong link between talking about what you're good at, focusing on small manageable steps and noticing those small signs of success.
The author tells us that if people are asked to focus on failure or problems then they are highly likely to limit specific neurotransmitters that are required for creativeness and solving problems, in fact other neuro chemicals are increased that reduce the ability to think clearly. When we talk with someone about success, achievements and we give a gentle tap on the shoulder to point out those small successes we help to increase those needy chemicals in the brain that are used for thinking and also help to build new neuro pathways.
The more we hear from the neuroscience field the more it becomes evident that there is a lot to learn about what questions we ask people, what they focus on between meetings, what they are asked to notice and what we focus on. Hopefully this 'evidence' will increase the use of solution focused ideas and replace the historical issues with the problem focused blame game that leads to so many burnt out teams.
